Finally! Colorado Music for Choirs!
In our most recent publication John took two songs from the Vintage Colorado collection and arranged them as a medley for 2 or 4 part vocal combinations.
Where the Columbines Grow was adopted as the Colorado State Song by the Colorado General Assembly in 1915. Written by A. J. Flynn, a respected Denver educator and principal of Manual, Longfellow and Valverde schools, the song now sounds very “dated” to our ears and is published in a key that is too high for most Elementary School voices.
John has written a new and more contemporary arrangement. Since the state song does not include the word “COLORADO” in the lyrics, he has added an introduction - -“Colorado, our state where the columbines grow.”
Hail Colorado! was introduced as a new state song contender in 1945 but failed to move legislators to make a change. This sprightly, march-style song has great lyrics and is fun to sing.
Combined, the two songs – packaged as the Colorado Pride! medley in 2 parts - would make great concert programming for any two part vocal combination that is perfect for the Elementary School Choir/K-8 and Middle School Choirs or adult Women’s or Men’s groups.
The 4 part arrangement, with some additional, optional divisi, is perfect for the High School, College Choir or Community Chorus. This arrangement has been performed by The Denver Chorale and The Parker Chorale.
Published in octavo format, there is also an accompaniment CD with John's characteristically wonderful instrumental tracks.
